Assistant Professor of Construction Management
The Department of Technology seeks an Assistant Professor of Construction Management to begin August 16, 2020.

The Department of Technology, which is one of eight departments/schools in the College of Applied Science and Technology, is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to provide leadership and instruction in the Construction Management program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Earned doctorate in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or closely related field. Individuals who reasonably expect to complete a terminal degree by August 16, 2020, will be considered.
-Expertise in one or more of the following areas: building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; sustainable construction.
-Demonstrated potential to conduct research in the appropriate field.
-State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement of this position.

DUTIES:
-Teach undergraduate courses in construction management. As a "teaching-focused" institution, quality of teaching is a high priority of the Department of Technology. A typical teaching load for tenure track faculty is three courses per semester.
-Develop a focused agenda of scholarship and grantsmanship appropriate to the discipline and disseminate through peer reviewed venues.
-Participate and lead service activities in the profession and University.
-Work closely with faculty and students to develop research skills.
-Work closely with faculty and staff to develop relationships with industry and external funding for program initiatives.
-Provide leadership to student chapters of professional organizations or student competitions.

The Department of Technology is recognized as one of the premier Technology programs in the nation at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Annually serving over 600 students, the faculty and staff are dedicated to preparing individuals for leadership positions as management-oriented technology professionals in six undergraduate programs and four areas of graduate study. Undergraduate majors include programs in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Graphic Communications, Computer Systems Technology, Sustainable & Renewable Energy, and Technology and Engineering Education. The Department has a graduate student enrollment of approximately 100 students and offers programs in Project Management, STEM Education and Leadership, Training and Development, and Quality Management and Analytics. The Department consists of 29 FTE faculty members, including tenured, tenure-track, full-time, and part-time instructors. Support staff includes a full-time systems manager and centralized advising at the department level (http://www.tec.ilstu.edu/).

The Construction Management Program serves around 180 undergraduate students by providing hands-on experience in labs and class projects and is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The CM program has strong support from the construction industry through the CM industry partnership and student chapters of professional organizations such as AGC, MCA, NECA, ACI, and NAHB. The support from the construction industry includes opportunities for faculty’s research and professional development as well as students’ activities such as student competitions, field trips, and job placement.

The Community: Illinois State University is located in the twin cities of Bloomington-Normal, with a population of approximately 167,000 and is easily accessible by car, bus, train or plane. Centrally located, Bloomington-Normal is easily accessed from Interstates 39, 55 and 74. Daily Amtrak service is available, as well as flights through the Central Illinois Regional Airport. Bus lines also provide service to various points in the state and beyond. Illinois State University is approximately 125 miles southwest of Chicago, 155 miles northeast of St. Louis, and 64 miles northeast of Springfield, the State Capital. Companies such as State Farm Insurance and Country Financial have major facilities in Bloomington-Normal. Other nearby institutions of higher education include Illinois Wesleyan University and Heartland Community College.

Bloomington-Normal is one of Illinois' fastest growing population, economic and development centers. Endowed with excellent location and transportation advantages, diverse population and employment sectors, and enviable community assets, the area has become a sought-after site for commercial, industrial, and personal investment. A key advantage is Illinois State University's location relative to major U.S. markets. Normal is near the geographic center of Illinois, and two-thirds of the nation's gross national product producers are within 500 miles of McLean County. The diverse economy has been well-insulated against recession. The labor force is large and equally diverse, with employees in nine traditional employment sectors. Unemployment figures in McLean County have been among the lowest in the Midwest.
